Introduction to Fused Glass

This service is fully booked.

[SATURDAY CLASS] New to A&C in 2026! Learn fused glass techniques, led by local artist Susan Smith

Starts Feb 28Art & Connection

Service Description

Art & Connection is excited to bring fused glass classes to our community in 2026! Join local artist and beloved A&C instructor, Susan Smith, in our Introduction to Fused Glass workshop. In this beginner level workshop, class participants will learn fusing basics, and gain an understanding of the different types of glass and embellishments that can be used in a fused glass project, as well as how these elements react to heat when fired in a kiln. After a review of kiln basics and firing schedules, Susan will guide class participants through a glass cutting demonstration, as well as the proper use of glass cutting tools. Class participants will create several small learning/practice pieces, that can then be turned into jewelry or magnets. After this exercise, students will have the opportunity to complete a 3"x3" glass sun catcher using the techniques they have learned. While this workshop will focus heavily on the techniques and skills required for glass fusing, instructor Susan Smith will also encourage class participants to create pieces that have personal significance as far as colors, designs, and symbols. At the end of the workshop, students will have the opportunity to share their experience with glass fusing as an art form and reflect on what they have learned with their fellow classmates. Leave with not only a basic knowledge of glass fusing techniques, but skills that can be used in future glass fusing classes at Art & Connection! Ages 16+ This is an introductory level workshop. No previous glass fusing experience is required. Please note, this workshop may only be taken once, and is a prerequisite for taking future fused glass workshops at Art & Connection. All finished fused glass pieces will be available for pickup one week after the completion of the class.
